Dinosaur Monster Cocktail Hour
The album is coming along nicely. We have a short editing break in between the rhythm tracks and the guitar tracks, so we have been rehearsing and are going to have a cocktail hour at Brandon's Saturday December 11 at around 11:00 PM.
Here is more of what we are doing on the tech side so far: CDCC.

Album Music Band News
We continue to soldier on rehearsing everything for the upcoming debut album. Eric and Ken are getting the rhythms tight so they can lay down the tracks in a couple of marathon sessions in November. Meanwhile, the guitar section is working out the fine details of what should and should not be. All fuck-ups aside we have been able to at least stay within the confines of the click-tracks.
The other news has been updates in gear, Ken has nearly a completely new bass rig while I just bought a new G&L guitar and am going to put new speakers and tubes in my amp as soon as I get it fixed. In a temporary setback it broke last Wednesday, better to have it happen in practice than at a gig, soon though we will have a backup amp.
We got so much new material in the works too, once we get this out we will be playing out a lot more and will have many new tricks up our sleeve as well as lots of stupid new covers.
Stay Classy.

D.M. Album Rehearsal Outtakes (Follow the Progress on Facebook and Twitter)
As we gear up for the new record we'll obviously be rehearsing everything to death. I want to provide a snapshot of where we are now. A preview if you will. This is a recent rehearsal outtake warts and all. I'm sure this will sound bad compared to what we will have in a couple of months. Everything is a work in progress, and with that we will continue to keep writing new tunes and perverting new covers.
We are going to update the whole process via Facebook and Twitter as well so stay tuned.

New Dinosaur Monster Music Band News
We are officially starting work on what will be the debut Dinosaur Monster album. The new album will be recorded and released under the local indie label Communist Day Care Center. We were going to do a brief four song EP but instead we are going to do a full length album. We have dates set for the rhythm tracks and are currently working on creating the click tracks which is a metronome that follows the tune. Most of our songs have different time changes within each song so we have to program every tune to follow the time changes rather than just turning the metronome on.
In the coming weeks we will have to run live rehearsals of the album a few times per week. That means no mistakes, and no slowing or speeding up. In theory the click track will end when the song is over. So that should keep us busy this fall, we will probably play out a little maybe a house party here or there, nothing too crazy. After the album is out though we will be playing out in the Detroit area and beyond. We also plan on doing weekend runs in Ann Arbor, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, and perhaps even Chicago.
Look for us soon, we will have updates as we slog through the process. The album should be out around Chrismas.
We love you,
Stay classy.

We're playing a show with JFn'K, and Einheuser at The Berkley Front Wednesday September 29 around 10 PM.

Working on a New EP
Jeremy Otto is a busy man. When he is not busy training Nepalese Samurai or hybridizing Bengal Tigers and Grizzly Bears for world domination, then he will be helping "The Fucking Monster" get an EP out. Hopefully he won't have to go Phil Spector on our ass, but who knows.
Check out Otto's label, there's some cool bands on there.

Much Thanx
Thanks to everyone that came out to Brewaroo, it was a blast, local beer, local music, good times. We love you.
The last two songs got cut from the recording, alcohol and recording don't really mix too well. We'll get it right next time. Thanks again, C ya!

Monsterpaloozaroo!
Yeah so it's on, August 20-22 in Remus Michigan there will be a weekend of beer, music, and fun. We'll have a barrel of home brewed Pale Ale, 10 gallons of a czech pilsner, 24 dueces of wheat beer and another barrel or two of good local beer.
Dinosaur Monster will play a set Saturday night probably around 10 or 11 and then there will be open jams throughout the night with some late night sets, be loose and party fucking hard.
There will also be a Dinosaur Monster T-shirt station, we don't have cash for legitimate Tee's yet, but with blank shirts and spray paint we can have T-shirts anyway. Custom, raw, D.I.Y. You have to do what you can with what you have.
Ok so it's coming up fast now so I hope everyone is ready to fucking party.
Keg beer $10ish for the weekend.
Bring your own food and water, I have grills but no running water.
Frozen gallon jugs of water work awesome for keeping food cold.
Don't drive over 10mph on the two track (neighbors get pissed)

DM AAAAA!
We've been woodshedding lately working on getting tighter as well as experimenting improvising and seeing who can have the most audacious sallies. All of the recent selections listed as "jams" are just our random excursions or exercises that we do every practice. A lot of riffs that make it into songs come from these Improvisational exercises.
Also, we got Brandon playing out of a 50-watt Marshall so his ass is up in the mix.

Don't be a Beast Come Get DuM-Stupid Saturday May 1
We're gonna have a whole mess of commodity beer for everyone. No home brew yet, but the dueces are done and it's very badass beer. I would easily lay Ken's life on the line for that beer.
Concert-Show, Fight-Punch, Trip-Fall, and so on and so forth.
It's again a house party at our rehearsal place. Come swig down all the commodity beer you can guzzle and we'll punish your eardrums.
Get DuM-Stupid with the DuMmest band in the world...Ever...
Now featuring Chief Honky Tonk, The Earl of Sandwhich, B-Chrys, and Captain Garbage.
Just don't disoney or your a beast and you will die in parachuting accident.

Band Baseball Signs
We're looking at communicating better as a band. As it stands now sometimes we will try to yell but we are looking at organizing everything a lot better so we can orchestrate improvised jams. This is definitely not a new idea, I've seen Umphrey's McGee do it as well as this other band that has an instructional video on band communication. So I finally made a little band flyer, Hopefully by our next show on May 1 we'll start getting this down.

All Hail the Rawk Show
Thanks for everyone that came out to the opening show on Saturday. We had a blast, and we are planning a variety of other events that will be bigger, badder, and will feature a plethora of local bands.

Brews and Tunes
Czech Pilsner color before:
On St. Patty's day we observed the holiday by brewing about 15 gallons of a Czech Pilsner. We're pretty excited about that. We're also pretty excited to start playing out, so we have been playing our asses off trying to get in shape and sounding good. Beer and tunes baby. Next up on the brew list is an amber or a brown.

Gearing Up for a Big Summer
Ok, well notice the uncontrollable feedback that actually sounds kind of cool in E-Chrys. That's what happens when you don't have backup strings and have to play the "mystery guitar" in the corner. H2 ohh though, sounds better (thanks Eddie, we sort of borrowed your Ibanez, she sounds great.)
Here are a couple of decent jams from an otherwise uneventful Monday practice...Uggh...Mondaze

H2 ohhh 3-1-10
We put the wheat beer into secondary fermentation last night to clear it out a little better, It tastes great, it will be a tight beer for the spring. We are going to brew 40 more gallons next week, we will have 20 gallons each of an amber and a czech pilsner, so there will be plenty of beer and music to go around real soon.

The Music of Fear
So there is a rift of sorts in our band. I myself think jazz is great, I love it. Brandon seems to like it too. Sun Ra, Mingus, Trane, Miles etc, good stuff. The rhythm section though, not so much. They are in the Nigel Tufnel camp. But hey, I'll play Heavy Duty all night long.

Zeked Down and Bound
Somehow the end of Whitesand Diablo turned into an ambient dance party. I don't know how these things happen.

Beerward Ho!
We're finally brewing again. It's been a long time. We're brewing 20 gallons of wheat beer for some sort of Spring Fling type event in April that will feature bands and beer. There will be a number of these events throughout the summer that will feature music, food, and beer.
We started at about 10:00 AM this morning and right now it is about 3:00 PM we're more than halfway done, so things are moving along nicely. When all is said and done the beer should be between 6 and 7 Percent, so it should be drinkable with some punch. We were gonna have a barrel but instead we are going to bottle them up in dueces.

Bull Murphy
Whenever we get together we always have a purely exploratory jam to open the night, partly for fun and partly to warm up. It always ends up being one of the highlights of the night.
Certain tunes have a loose chord structure and turn into improv vehicles, Beehive on the Moon is one of those. Tonight was loose. Loose as all hell.
For some reason we spontaneously played Broken Furniture all in different times. We were jabbering at each other about some timing and just decided to play it any way but right. You can hear the hesitation, but maybe we'll rework it into a different song. It is all part of the songwriting process.
Also we are working on throwing vocals into already established songs and working on little five minute tunes. We're working on balancing out the set.
We will also be holding events throughout the spring and summer that will feature delicious home brew and live music by Dinosaur Monster, so stay tuned for that.

10 Guitar Tips by Captain Beefheart
We're big Captain Beefheart fans.
This is all any aspiring guitar player really needs to know.
1. Listen to the birds.
That's where all the music comes from. Birds know everything about how it should sound and where that sound should come from. And watch hummingbirds. They fly really fast, but a lot of times they aren't going anywhere.
2. Your guitar is not really a guitar. Your guitar is a divining rod.
Use it to find spirits in the other world and bring them over. A guitar is also a fishing rod. If you're good, you'll land a big one.
3. Practice in front of a bush.
Wait until the moon is out, then go outside, eat a multi-grained bread and play your guitar to a bush. If the bush doesn't shake, eat another piece of bread.
4. Walk with the devil.
Old Delta blues players referred to guitar amplifiers as the "devil box." And they were right. You have to be an equal opportunity employer in terms of who you're bringing over from the other side. Electricity attracts devils and demons. Other instruments attract other spirits. An acoustic guitar attracts Casper. A mandolin attracts Wendy. But an electric guitar attracts Beelzebub.
5. If you're guilty of thinking, you're out.
If your brain is part of the process, you're missing it. You should play like a drowning man, struggling to reach shore. If you can trap that feeling, then you have something that is fur bearing.
6. Never point your guitar at anyone.
Your instrument has more clout than lightning. Just hit a big chord then run outside to hear it. But make sure you are not standing in an open field.
7. Always carry a church key.
That's your key-man clause. Like One String Sam. He's one. He was a Detroit street musician who played in the fifties on a homemade instrument. His song "I Need a Hundred Dollars" is warm pie. Another key to the church is Hubert Sumlin, Howlin' Wolf's guitar player. He just stands there like the Statue of Liberty-making you want to look up her dress the whole time to see how he's doing it.
8. Don't wipe the sweat off your instrument.
You need that stink on there. Then you have to get that stink onto your music.
9. Keep your guitar in a dark place.
When you're not playin your guitar, cover it and keep it in a dark place. If you don't play your guitar for more than a day, be sure you put a saucer of water in with it.
10. You gotta have a hood for your engine.
Keep that hat on. A hat is a pressure cooker. If you have a roof on your house, the hot air can't escape. Even a lima bean has to have a piece of wet paper around it to make it grow.

Dymaxion Furniture
The above picture is the Dymaxion Map that was designed by Buckminster Fuller. The Dymaxion Map is a flat version of the world that does not distort the ratio of landmass to ocean size. The map is designed in such a way that it can be folded into a globe. But if you really look closely the map is also a depiction of a Dinosaur Monster.

The Foundation of a Song
This is an old forgotten little riff that I came across on Brandon's external hard drive. This will probably be developed into a song. Or at least into a part of a song. It all starts with a dumb little riff. Every time we play we record what we are doing since a lot of what we are doing is improvising. When we go back and listen we just think of the riffs as movable building blocks. See now I can take this riff and boil it in ammonia and get it perverted and who knows? We could very well have something here, though the finished product could take on a very different but related form. I'll definitely switch the key.

2010
We are working on new material at the moment and are looking to play out real soon in the Detroit area. We just have to put the finishing touches on some new tunes.
I figured out how to use Megaupload so we will be not be restricted to the crappy Myspace limitations of only 10 megabyte files. When we start playing out we will be able to post non lossy formats in their entirety. Until then, here are a couple of tunes we are working on though they are far from done. These are a couple rough drafts that we have at the moment.
